Amanda Bynes has been under the spotlight a bit recently, and not least because she’s revealed that she had a nose job to correct a marginal (at best) fault – in her words ‘remove skin that was like a webbing in between my eyes’.

It’s a topic of hot debate on the Internet as to whether the surgery was necessary, and the jury is still out, but some of her recent tweets have been very revealing. She’s commented on every aspect of the way that she looks, from her hair, make-up, style and weight through to her recent foray into cosmetic surgery. Whether using Twitter as a kind of surrogate style psychologist in this way is a good idea remains to be seen, but the message to people who are considering going under the knife is pretty clear.

It’s about the whole package.

A good surgeon, who is part artist, and part technically gifted surgeon, can change small aspects of your looks to reveal a new, better looking you. Dr. Naderi is one of the best in the business, specializing in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty, as well as ethnically sensitive cosmetic surgery, but even he can’t correct your dress sense!

Joking aside, surgery isn’t the complete solution in the quest for perfection. For example, surgery can help you to lose weight fast (think liposuction) and can even help you keep the weight off (think gastric band), but it can’t help you eat well and healthfully. Only you can do that.

Your body, and your surgeon, will thank you. Taking care of your body, your health and your total well-being are all part of the solution. Give your artist (surgeon) a great canvas, and the result will be so much more impressive.

To learn more about facelifts, revision and plastic surgery, and non-invasive procedures, please contact us at 703-481-0002 in Virginia or 301-222-2020 in Maryland for a consultation today.

There are two kinds of surgery that can be performed on the body in order to improve function or appearance, and they usually get lumped together. There seems to be a general misconception that plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery are one and the same thing, but that’s not entirely true.

The truth is that plastic surgery is comprised of both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery is generally an elective procedure which is intended to improve the appearance. An example would be a person who is unhappy with the way their face is aging and they seek out a surgeon to help improve their outward appearance and address aging signs. Reconstructive surgery, on the other hand, is meant to improve function and sometimes approximate a normal appearance as well. There is a difference between the desire to have a procedure, and the necessity, at a surgical level, to have the changes made.

With some procedures, the line between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery is a blurry one. Rhinoplasty, for example, which Dr. Naderi specializes in, can be used to improve the function of the nose. On the other hand, some people just aren’t happy with the shape and appearance of their nose and this can be addressed with rhinoplasty as well. Badly performed cosmetic surgery can also cause problems. We see many patients who require revision rhinoplasty, which is sometimes used to correct the function of the nose while also addressing cosmetic or aesthetic concerns as well.

I spent the whole day today in our Virginia office location of The Naderi Center for Rhinoplasty & Cosmetic Surgery. It was a very busy day with both me and my partner, Dr. Kulak seeing patients. I had a lot of patients who came in for “tear trough” and lip injections. Patients who have struggled with dark circles under their eyes for years, even decades, were able to walk out of my office in a matter of minutes with vastly improved eyes and self confidence after injection of Restylane to the area under their eyes. I had a patient who had her Botox injected poorly by another plastic surgeon and made her eyebrows look really mean and aggressive. Corrected that for her. I had another patient whose lip was way overfilled by a Dermatologist and I ended up fixing that for her. When it comes to injections, sometimes you need lots of volume but only in the right anatomic locations and sometimes less is all that’s needed. Ended my day by seeing patients who came in for Rhinoplasty consult, some from very long distances away. Will spend the weekend gardening and preparing for Monday.

Perhaps the most famous example of ethnic cosmetic surgery was the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who allegedly had his face remodeled on a fairly regular basis. Looking back over photos of him through the years, one thing stands out: whatever anyone says, given his appearance over the decades, he definitely appears to have had some plastic surgery. Some have argued that Michael Jackson wanted to be white. Whether true or not, many would argue that his plastic surgery was clearly unsuccessful.

When it comes to cosmetic surgery, ethnicity is an important factor to consider. You might want Kate Middleton’s nose or Beyoncé’s eyes, and you may well want to retain a look of individuality, but these desires need to be sympathetic to your ethnic roots.

Ethnic rhinoplasty is one of those key areas where the delicacy of touch, forward planning, and consultation with the patient all help lead to a natural looking result. After all, although people might deduct that you’ve had a rhinoplasty (nose job), you don’t want it to be too obvious. In fact, the litmus test would be if someone you didn’t know at all was unaware that your nose was not exactly the same as the one you were born with. That’s the look you want to aim for, whether it’s rhinoplasty or ethnic rhinoplasty.

Achieving that level of competence takes dedication and specialization. Dr. Naderi has spent years perfecting the techniques required to support his artistic ability to match the surgery with the look that the client wishes to achieve.

In fact, Dr. Naderi is renowned for his expertise in achieving that balance between form and function that makes for the perfect nose. He has contributed to and written books, articles, and teaching material that helps others to follow the same path.

The Naderi Center specializes in facial cosmetic surgery. To learn more about ethnic rhinoplasty and other cosmetic surgeries and how the Naderi Center can help you to achieve the perfect look, contact us at 703-481-0002 in Virginia or 301-222-2020 in Maryland for a consultation today.

Once again, here’s Dr. Naderi’s day, unedited and unfiltered for your reading pleasure. Take a look at how he handles patient care and ensures proper healing of surgeries:

Today I was in the Chevy Chase, Maryland office location of The Naderi Center for Rhinoplasty & Cosmetic Surgery. It was an all-office day with no surgeries. I saw post-rhinoplasty patients as well as pre-op rhinoplasty patients.

One of my post-op patients had not followed instructions despite me explicitly telling him not to modify the nose cast but he went ahead and didn’t follow instructions and cut some parts of the cast off which made it less effective in placing pressure on the nose and he ended up with more swelling on the tip of his nose than he would have if he had followed my specific instructions. I re-taped him for a few more days and will see him back to inject the nose with steroids to reduce the swelling. Luckily though even with that extra swelling his nose looked AMAZING only 7 days after surgery and he was very happy!

The rest of the day I spent injecting Botox and fillers for patients who had driven from long distances to see me. I start off tomorrow in the operating room doing Nose jobs.

Today was an all office day in our Northern Virginia plastic surgery office location. Dr. Kulak and I were busy seeing patients. I saw several post-operative rhinoplasty patients who were one week out from their nose job. Removed their nose splints and all of them looked amazing! They were so happy. They all looked even better than the computer imaging and they were very grateful. I also had a bunch of new rhinoplasty consults and a bunch of injections. I treated a doctor who had come from the middle east for me to inject her. She actually does Botox and filler injections herself and had used my online videos to help her improve her technique but she could not find anyone she trusted enough to inject her own face. I was very happy to see and inject her.

Here’s, in his own words (unedited, unfiltered) his notes from yesterday at the office:

Started my day in the Virginia office location at the Naderi center for rhinoplasty and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Kulak and I were seeing patients in the morning. I left around noon to go to fair oaks hospital surgery center and do my rhinoplasties. Surgery went great as usual. Then did a favor for one of northern Virginia’s top famous dermatologists. Went over to her office and injected her tear troughs and cheeks with Restylane and perlane respectively while she was in between seeing patients. Went great with minimal bruising.

Over the years celebrities have no doubt become used to having their look copied. From Kim Kardashian’s derriere to Angelina Jolie’s lips, plastic surgeons have become accustomed to various requests for copycat surgery. The latest trend to emerge is for requests to copy Kate Middleton’s cute nose. In fact, the Huffington Post reports that, in 2012, it was the most requested procedure on the other side of the Atlantic, in Britain. However, there are some possible downsides to requesting surgery based on someone else’s unique look.

Top surgeons agree that it’s the way in which faces have little intricacies and imperfections that make them attractive. Those are the features that make them individual, and it’s those features that make the whole face work together. So, if you try and plonk someone’s nose on your face and it’s the wrong shape, size, or doesn’t have the same features, then it will just look wrong.

That’s where the skill of a surgeon like Dr. Naderi comes in. As a specialist in rhinoplasty (nose jobs), he can pinpoint which features of the nose will work, and which might require other features (lips, eyes, brow, etc.) to be tweaked so that the whole face works together. He can also recommend a look that, while not Kate Middleton’s, will work best for your individual features.

As Fox 10 News noted, “not every face is made for Kate Middleton’s nose” which often leads to other procedures to bring the whole effect together. The end effect may be something of a compromise between how much surgery the patient is willing to have done, how much is needed to achieve the desired effect, and the financial implications of multiple procedures. At the end of the day, the partnership between surgeon and client is invaluable in making sure that both parties are comfortable and that the best result can be achieved.

For more information on rhinoplasty or other procedure, please contact the Naderi Center at (703) 481-0002 in Herndon, Virginia, or (301) 222-2020 in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

TLC has launched Plastic Wives, which showcases wives of several plastic surgeons and their various enhancements. In many cases, it’s a prime example of what happens when plastic surgery is available more or less on tap. One of the stars, Dayna Devon, went so far as to say that a plastic surgeon’s wife is his best advertisement.

There’s a serious side to explore here, too. Plastic surgery should be natural. It should be an art form that produces a more youthful, beautiful, or sculpted appearance that doesn’t go beyond the purely aesthetic. That should be the real advertisement of a plastic surgeon’s work: the inability to tell that the septoplasty included a rhinoplasty or that the barest hint of a lifting procedure has been performed at the same time as a Botox-based filler. All we should see is that the result is one step closer to perfection and it takes a skilled surgeon to achieve it.

There are, however, two people involved: the surgeon and the client. Some clients seem to have lost sight of what is natural, and what is just taut, over-stretched, immobile skin. It’s partly the responsibility of the surgeon to make sure that their clients understand what the result will make them look like.

Part of that is psychological. Dr. Rich Castellano, interviewed by Fox News in the wake of TLC’s new show, reminds us that noticeable plastic surgery has also become a “badge of honor or status symbol” for the very rich.

The clincher is finding a highly qualified and experienced facial plastic surgeonthat can provide the most natural, beautiful results, even if it means saying ‘No’ to the client. It’s part of the reason that people travel to a great cosmetic surgeon – they know that they will receive the best advice and surgery that is so natural-looking that people would have difficulty saying just what they’ve had done.

Yes, Plastic Wives is good television. Yes, we all like to see what happens when someone takes it to the extreme, but that shouldn’t make them role models when all we want to do is look our absolute best.

To look your best, contact facial plastic surgeons Dr. Shervin Naderi and Dr. Jessica Kulak of the Naderi Center for Rhinoplasty & Cosmetic Surgery in Herndon, VA (703.481.0002) and Chevy Chase, MD (301.222.2020).

For a number of reasons, you might not want to have a surgical procedure. It might be financial, it might be fear, or it might just not be necessary. So much can be achieved today with non-surgical procedures that it would be foolish to assume that surgery is the only solution.

In some cases, of course, a procedure such as a rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty (correcting previous surgery) is the only sensible route to take. Your surgeon will give you the very best advice as to what you can expect from such a procedure, coupled with imaging on a computer, so that you can make your decision fully appraised of the possibilities.

If you’re simply looking for a more youthful appearance, the chances are good that there is an injectable filler that can help. The general principle is easy to appreciate – the filler is injected under the skin where the wrinkle is and it plumps the skin, smoothing out any irregularities. This is the simplest form of cosmetic procedure available, and offers a temporary but noticeable improvement.

A step up is Botox. Many people think that they understand Botox, but they are not always fully aware of the facts. More than just simple filler, Botox actually relaxes the muscles responsible for wrinkles. One week after the Botox injection, it is at maximum effect and the effect generally remains for around four months. Another thing that people don’t know about Botox is that it has a role to play in pain management of conditions such as migraines and muscle spasms.

So, the advantages are clear:

Minimal downtime

Back to work within a few days!

Relatively low cost

It’s important to remember that the effects aren’t generally permanent and that, at some point, a repeat visit will be necessary. There are currently two injectable products on the market that offer a long lasting effect.

Juvederm, an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler, can fix lines around the mouth and brow, and lasts for between six months and a year in some cases.

Artefill, the only FDA-approved permanent filler, is something of a revelation in non-surgical procedures. It is more expensive than Botox, Juvederm and other fillers, and usually requires up to three sessions to achieve the exact result that you expect from a professional cosmetic procedure, but the effect is permanent. This means that there are no repeat injections year after year, making it almost as good as surgery.

Of course, there are times when the traditional approach of surgery is the best approach. A consultation with a qualified and experienced facial plastic surgeon can help you to determine the best treatment plan to help you meet your aesthetic goals. To discuss your options, contact renowned facial plastic surgeon Dr. Shervin Naderi of the Naderi Center today at (703) 481-0002 in Herndon, VA, or (301) 222-2020 in Chevy Chase, MD.
