I recently had plastic surgery on my nose, but im not really happy with it..the dr i believe did a good job on my nose but my nostrils are still enlarged..I had a past of cocaine addiction and that is why i felt i had to get this procedure done, Im not sure since i already had this surgery if its possible to correct this problem further, the only thing im not happy about are my nostrils, Duromg the procedure they took cartlidge from my ears to try to repair the tip but it still looks awkward. Do you think its possible that you can help the apperiance of my nose?

Answer

Hi,

Without seeing you and examining your nose I cannot tell you if further improvements can be made with a revision rhinoplasty or not.  However, if your nostrils are large and youre unhappy with your tip then you may want to consider a revision rhinoplasty.  I would be happy to see you in my Northern Virginia or my Chevy Chase Maryland office to examine you and then give you my opinion.  I may talk you out of further nose job surgery or I may tell you that further improvements can be made.

Hi Dr.Naderi:

I have a question. I was wondering if i can get a nose job at age 17 ! now I am 16 and next year I really want to get a nose job but they say that i should wait till I'm 21 .. is that true or not? and also i was about to buy some of those nose huggies online but some people say that they wont work!! i just wanted to know what u suggest! because i am so unhappy with my nose! Thanks.

Answer

Hi,
As long as you are physically and emotionally mature and you have the support of your parents then a rhinoplasty can be an option at 16, 17 or 18.  There have been some patients who have undergone rhinoplasty even at 14 or 15 but those are very rare cases with special circumstances.  If your mom and dad are much taller than you when you are 18 then you should still wait to make sure your teenage growth spurt is complete.

As far as the gimmicky nasal devices like the nose huggie or clips, please avoid them and save your money and avoid damaging the skin and cartilages of your nose.  They are total BS!

Hello Dr Naderi.

I had underwent a rhinoplasty procedure about 4 years ago to scrape down the nasal bone and also to make the tip of my nose shorter. All went well, except I am starting to notice a few wrinkles or "sagging lines" coming from my nose down to my cheeks (I am only 21). I do notice this a lot more on one side than the other and on the more prominent side, it also seems that the bone from the side of my nose(the upper part near the tear trough) was shaved a little too much and more than the other side that seems to have a thicker bone still there with less lines. Is this due to the side of the nasal bone being scrapped down too much? and if so, can these lines be corrected?

Thank you

-Marc

Answer

Hi Marc,

I would have to see and examine you and look at your before pictures to see what changes have occured to your nose and face.  I cannot make specific comments about your nose, your rhinoplasty or your face without seeing you but just remember that the human face is NOT symmetric and we have asymmetry from side to side and often after surgery, patients start really noticing and focusing on these asymmetries.

Dear Dr

i had rhinoplasty done 7 weeks ago in tehran by one of the top surgens, everything is good so far except that my upper lip is larger than before. could this be swelling? shouldnt it be gone by now?
im really scared could u please tell me what i should do and if this is normal?

Answer

Hi,

Your lip and face can have swelling for weeks to months after a rhinoplasty.  Your upper lip may also look larger after the nose looks smaller with a rhinoplasty.  Make sure your doctor did not do any lip injections or any other procedure without your consent.  It is fairly common for plastic surgeons outside of the United States to do procedures that they think are necessary without the consent of the patient.  Talk to your plastic surgeon in Tehran and make sure you dont have any infection or other problems.  If it is swelling, it should improve with time.

Hi,
Late 1990s I had a sinus surgery in Ohio and the surgeon put a hole in my septum and I went to a plastic surgeon to was fixed. Everything was fine until I moved to NC in 2007 I developed breathing problems and saw a plastic surgeon in Charlotte and he did some revisions and I was fine for 2 years. In Dec 2010 The breathing problem came back. I went to Charlotte ENT and Dr. Gibson performed a procedure in early February 2011 called: "Friedman valve suspension" but I have had no luck with that. Is there any way to fix this problem so I do not suffer anylonger with breathing problems?
Thanks

Answer

Dear Fred,

First off please do not post your email or phone number on this public portion of the website.  You can use the CONTACT US page to send is private and confidential virtual consultation requests or to contact our office.  The privacy of everyone is very important to us even if you are not our patient yet.

Breathing problems can be very complex to diagnose and to correct.  There is no way anyone can tell you online without examining you if your breathing can be improved.  If anyone tells you "yes" without seeing you then they do not know what they are talking about or they are simply just not honest.

Plastic surgeons know very little about breathing so if you have a breathing issue you need to see an ENT surgeon or a Facial Plastic Surgeon.  If you had sinus problems and had a hole in the septum and had multiple surgeries you can count on the fact that you will have tightness and scar tissue and changes to the internal lining of your nasal cavity called the mucosa.  Obstruction to air flow can come from one or multiple locations and its not just a matter of the septum or turbinates or valves, etc.  Its complex.  Sometimes, breathing problems are more a result of improper physiology of your nose rather than improper anatomy.  You need to see a good RHINOLOGIST - and ENT surgeon specializing in breathing and sinuses.  And you have to be prepared to accept that maybe this is as good as its going to get and it may not be improvable.

I had a mole removed from the middle of my nose 2 years ago. It has a scar that is getting larger, what can I do?

Answer

Hi,

I would suggest you see a MOHS surgeon to have the area inspected.  Scars usually shrink down with time and over a 2-3 year period or greater, get smaller and flatter.  If the scar is getting larger, a MOHS dermatologist surgeon needs to look at it to make sure there is nothing else growing in the scar area.  Some skin cancers grow in scars.  If the MOHS surgeon clears you then scars can be treated in various ways using steroi dinjections, silicone topical gels, lasers, dermabrasion or excision and re-closure of the area or even a shave of the scar.
