As plastic surgery become more prevalent in today’s culture, patients are traveling more and more to get a procedure done. Resources like RealSelf, Yelp, and medical websites allow patients to cherry pick their surgeons from any location in the country, or even the world.
For surgeons like Dr. Naderi who are well-known for their expertise worldwide, out-of-town patients are very common. If you are looking to travel for your rhinoplasty procedure, check out the following information about our consultation process for non-local, out of town patients and other things such patients may need to ensure their comfort.
Make Contact With Our Office
If you can’t make it to Dr. Naderi’s office in person, you can still get a consultation through the internet. Email our office using our patient contact page. This is where you provide your information, a description of your nose, and what you would liked fixed. You should also send us pictures of your nose from the front and the sides. The pictures should be large with a high resolution and have good lighting so Dr. Naderi can clearly see your nose. Selfies with your cell phone won’t cut it.
Schedule a Consultation
It’s possible to have your consultation with only your pictures, but you can also schedule a 20-minute phone consultation online. This will be the time for you to talk to Dr. Naderi about everything you want and provide details on your nose. Good quality photos will be especially important for phone consultations, since they will be the only representation of your nose that the doctor can look at.
If you choose to proceed, we will email a price quote and begin planning your travel. A guaranteed surgical spot will be scheduled after payment is collected and pre-op labs are completed and the results faxed to our office.
Plan Your Travel
It’s a good idea to arrive at least 1-2 days before your surgery so you have time to rest up before seeing the doctor. You’ll also need to have all the necessary paperwork turned in to the office before arriving. This will prevent the need to postpone your surgery due to any problems with financing or consent.
You should also plan to stay in the area for one to two weeks after your surgery. Travel can be very stressful at times, so giving yourself plenty of time to rest right after surgery will help prevent additional swelling or discomfort. Every patient reacts to surgery differently; some are able to go home earlier than others. The important thing is to be nearby so that if you experience any complications from your surgery, you’ll be able to head right for the doctor’s office.
The More the Merrier
It’s recommended that you bring a friend or a loved one with you when you travel for surgery. This person can provide support during your recovery, and give you a familiar face in a new area. You won’t be able to drive after surgery and you will have difficulty getting around for the first couple days of recovery, so this person will be able to help you with all of that. If you can’t bring someone with you, you should arrange for a car service and an overnight nursing service.
Communication Is Key
Before you come to town, let us know about your travel plans and the arrangements you’ve made for your aftercare. If you need help finding and setting up hotels, car or nursing services, or just have questions about the area, we can help you arrange accommodations.
After you go home, make sure that you maintain contact with Dr. Naderi and your patient care coordinator. We care about our patients’ safety and well-being long after they’ve walked out of our office doors. If you have questions or concerns, please call or email us and we will do our best to help you, including referring you to a local physician if necessary.
