Although the Rhinoplasty has become one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed in the world, the concept of a nose job without surgery appeals to a much larger audience. People may not feel they’re an ideal candidate for surgery while others may fear the idea of being placed under general anesthesia. Because of these reasons, many people are beginning to seek out ways to achieve a fabulous, natural appearing nose with a non-surgical Rhinoplasty. Moreover, this new type of filler-based procedure allows for further post-rhinoplasty revisions without the necessity for surgery.

What is a non-surgical nose job?
Some have gone as far as to call this procedure a “three-minute nose job.” This procedure uses injectable fillers and compounds to change the outer appearance of the nose. It’s important to note that this procedure doesn’t offer the ability to repair internal nasal problems such as a deviated or perforated septum, or the nasal wall. Dr. Naderi can use these materials to correct a bulbous tips, large or small humps, or an asymmetrical nose. Sometimes scar tissue from an injury, or previous nose job, results in the appearance of large humps or other problems with the nose.
The consultation for this type of procedure usually occurs at the time of receiving the injections. The consultation gives both the patient and Dr. Naderi an opportunity to discuss the goals of the procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Naderi will ask questions about your medical and physical history. It’s unlikely that anything will disqualify you from candidacy, unless you have a known allergy to one of the fillers or if you have an implant in your nose.
Computerized imaging can be used to show you how your nose may potentially appear following the procedure. The procedure offers quick and effective changes to the nose. Most individuals may see reduced bumps in the bridge of the nose. It can give more body to the exterior of the nose, especially indented areas. Furthermore, these non-surgical procedures can refine the nose of someone who has already had a rhinoplasty and was unsatisfied with a portion of the appearance. If you’ve ever used any black-market filler, please inform Dr. Naderi at the beginning of your consultation. These substances can be dangerous and cause serious complications due to their toxicity. However, all of the fillers used by Dr. Naderi undergo rigorous testing for approval by the FDA.
Aside from not worrying about having an incision site, this type of procedure doesn’t require the intensive preparation requirements such as fasting. It’s still a good idea to wash the injection site with an antimicrobial soap before you head to the doctor’s office.
The procedure begins with the application of a topical numbing cream. Depending on the amount of change desired in the nose, Dr. Naderi will make a decision about the best type of filler to use. Dr. Naderi prefers using Restylane®. Each injection takes very little time, approximately one to three minutes, to be completed. Let’s take a closer look at how each of these fillers work. Dr. Naderi prefers the safer Hyaluronic Acid fillers like Restylane. Other doctors have been known to inject Radiesse, Silicone or Artefill into the nose.
• Radiesse®– This FDA approved filler is manufactured by Merz Aesthetics and is composed of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA). Suspended within a water based gel, this filler gives the injection site instant volume. In addition to providing immediate results, this filler stimulates collage production within the tissue. Results of the filler usually last approximately a year, but the collagen growth remains to continue giving skin a youthful appearance after the CaHA has been completed metabolized from the tissues. The problem with Radiesse in the nose is that it can cause nodules and scar tissue and an inflammatory reaction. It is also not dissolvable like Restylane is. While some doctors do use Radiesse in the nose, its best for use in the midface, cheeks or deep on top of bone such as chin or jawline or deep laugh lines.
• Restylane® – Medicis Aesthetics manufactures this FDA approved filler. Your body naturally produces hyaluronic acid—the active ingredient within Restylane. This filler has been around a very long time and has a high safety record but like any other filler, allergic reactions or infections may occur. It is a clear gel and it is dissolvable and it is the best filler for a non-surgical rhinoplasty or non-surgical revision rhinoplasty.
• Artefill® – FDA approved and manufactured by Suneva-Medical, Inc. this product provides lasting results for much longer than the other two fillers. This filler is made from a plastic-like (glass beads) substance, Methyl Methacrylate, and it requires a skin test prior to use for possible adverse reactions due to its collagen component. While this filler works, Dr. Naderi discourages its use for non-surgical Rhinoplasty because permanent fillers can cause permanent problems such as horrific scar tissue nodules or infections that may need to be excised surgically! (Silicone is very similar in this characteristic).
Non-surgical nose jobs don’t have an extensive recovery period. In fact, the only side effects of these procedures include tenderness and minor swelling or bruising following the procedure.
Benefits of a nose job with fillers when compared to a traditional, surgical Rhinoplasty
Traditional rhinoplasty requires surgery. It is effective and great results can be achieved by a masterful expert rhinoplasty specialist like Dr. Naderi. But it is still surgery with potential risks and downtime and high upfront cost. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is immediate and fast and low risk and relatively cost effective. However not all patients seeking a non-surgical nosejob are good candidates for a nonsurgical rhinoplasty and this is why you should seek the opinion of a skillful surgeon like Dr. Naderi who can evaluate you for all your options.
Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve been told that injecting fillers into the nose can obstruct my breathing, is this true?
Of course not! You previous surgeon was talking about the illegal cosmetic filler trade. Many individuals illegally perform these procedures in homes and hotels with fillers usually purchased at local hardware stores. Many television programs have spoken about the dangers of using these black-market cosmetic procedures; therefore, you must receive filler based rhinoplasty in an accredited, licensed facility. Dr. Naderi only uses fillers approved by the FDA.
My nares are two narrow, can this procedure make them larger?
Unfortunately, fillers aren’t able to make the actual opening of the nares larger. They can be used to make the actual tissue of the nose slightly larger so if your tip is pinched due to a poorly performed previously nosejob by a non-specialist then non-surgical revision rhinoplasty may help.
My nose is huge! Can we use a filler to correct it?
No. Fillers are designed to fill imperfections in the nose itself. As such they are unable to remove tissue or cartilage to reduce the size of the nose. Fillers can be used to make the nose appear more natural or straight but they do not reduce the size. Now in some patients such as Asian or African American patients with low wide flat bridges, the addition of filler to raise the bridge can make it appear more narrow and refined.
Will I see results immediately?
Yes. This is probably the best benefit of receiving this type of procedure. You will see results immediately following the procedure. Depending upon the type of filler used, you can expect results to last for varying lengths of time. Please see the above section on the non-surgical procedure for more information.
